Celebrating Joyful (Holiday) Noise: Our Favorite Music of the Season + A Playlist

Celebrating Joyful (Holiday) Noise: Our Favorite Music of the Season + A Playlist

Hello, hello and happiest of happy holidays. Last night marked the end of Chanukah; Yule and the Solstice were celebrated on the 21 continuing through today (or Jan. 1 in more recent/modern times); Christmas is a mere couple of days away; Pancha Ganapati ends on the 25th and Kwanzaa continues through Jan. 1. 'Tis truly the season and we are here for all of it. Our champagne glasses are clinking and the holiday playlist is chock full of classics old and new — this is the joyful noise of our season.

While we can't share our champagne with you through the internet, we can share our holiday playlist, thoughtfully and expertly compiled by Melanie's husband Mark (aka "fastediegantry") in the Spotify player/link below.

This fantastic playlist includes, but is not limited to, favorites on both Stacy's and Melanie's Top 3 Best Holiday Songs Ever. Which are:

Stacy:

  1. "White Christmas." by Bing Crosby
  2. "Feliz Navidad," by Jose Feliciano
  3. "Jingle Bell Rock," by Brenda Lee

Melanie:

  1. "Last Christmas," by Wham! (Melanie here: Which is arguably the BEST CHRISTMAS SONG EVER and as of Dec. 18, it bumped Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" — also excellent — out of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Global 200)
  2. "Fairytale of New York," by The Pogues
  3. "Christmas in Hollis," by Run DMC (Melanie again: But I also really love "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," by both Bill Hayley and the Comets and the Brenda Lee version and would pick that as a third depending on the day)

Stacy's love of celebration — passed down from her mom, Mariann and infused into every aspect of Maison Mariann — includes music as a soundtrack to whatever is being commemorated. Mariann enjoyed music by Ray Price. So this year, we are enjoying his festive version of "Jingle Bells," in Mariann's honor.

Melanie is an introvert, but plays and loves music — a pastime potentially inspired by a childhood love of Alvin and the Chipmunks (her first ever album). The Chipmunk' version of "Christmas Don't Be Late," is sadly is not on the playlist, but you can listen to it here

However you celebrate the season, we hope it is merry and bright. And perhaps made slightly brighter by Mark's playlist.
