Gold has captivated humanity for millennia (and our Maison Mariann founders for over half a century <cue rimshot>) — not merely because it glitters, but because it endures. Unlike trends that cycle in and out of fashion, gold is elemental. It doesn't tarnish, corrode or lose its luster over time. Gold is, in the most literal sense, timeless — which is why it has served as the foundation of fine jewelry across every culture and every era (particularly Taylor Swift's showgirl era — hello sparkle) in recorded history.
There's a reason goldsmiths have been among the most revered artisans in every civilization from ancient Egypt to Renaissance Florence to the ateliers of modern Paris. Working in gold requires skill, patience and an intimate understanding of a material that is simultaneously soft enough to shape and strong enough to last forever. When a jeweler sets a stone in gold — whether it's a brilliant-cut diamond or a simple, minimalist ring — they're not just making something pretty. Rather, they are creating an object designed to outlive them.
Why so expensive tho?
But craftsmanship has a cost, and — much to our dismay — gold's market value is part of it. Gold started 2025 trading at about $2,624 per ounce and climbed to a record high of $5,589.38 per ounce by January 2026, nearly doubling in a single year. We repeat: nearly doubling in a single year. Over the past 50 years, gold has increased in value by approximately 8 percent annually, which is why some people approach fine gold jewelry as a financial investment — and they aren't wrong to think of it that way. But here's the thing: reducing gold to a line item is beside the point, if not entirely missing it.
The more meaningful return on a gold piece isn't monetary. It's the way a well-made bracelet catches the light at dinner. It's the ring you reach for every morning because it feels like you. It's the necklace you'll eventually press into someone else's hands with a story attached. Fine gold jewelry is one of the few things you can buy that is both an object of daily beauty and an heirloom in the making — something that absorbs the texture of your life and becomes more layered with meaning the longer you wear it.
Buying gold is, at its heart, an act of self-celebration. It's choosing to surround yourself with craftsmanship, intention and something made to last as long as the moments it marks. That's the real investment and, yes we are biased, but we think it looks very good on you!
Cheers to you! ✨🥂✨
