Maison Mariann Pro-Tips: How to Care for Your Gold Jewelry

Whether it’s a delicate bracelet you wear every day, a statement ring that sparks conversation or heirloom earrings passed down from your beloved aunt or grandmother, gold jewelry deserves care that mirrors its timelessness. As a fine jeweler, I’ve learned that with a little effort you can preserve the brilliance of your gold for generations.

Daily Gold Care Routine (It’s Easier Than You Think)

  • Last on, first off: Make your jewelry the finishing touch in the morning and the first thing you remove at night. Fragrance, skincare and hair products can dim gold’s natural shine — we want radiance, not residue!
  • Skip the gym (for your jewelry, at least): Weights, sweat and friction aren’t gold’s besties. Give your pieces a rest during workouts — they’ll thank you in longevity.
  • Store with intention: Gold needs a soft place to rest. Keep pieces in individual pouches or a lined jewelry box to prevent scratches and tangles. Consider it a nightly ritual, like silk pillowcases for your jewelry.

A Quick At-Home Refresh

Every few weeks, treat your gold to a little spa treatment:

  • Soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap
  • Gently brush with a soft, clean toothbrush
  • Rinse + pat dry with a lint-free cloth

That’s it — no harsh cleansers, no abrasive polishing. (If your piece features pearls, opals, emeralds or other delicate gems, skip the soak and simply wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry.)

When Your Jewelry Need a Professional Boost

Even the most timeless pieces love a little pro TLC. I recommend a cleaning and inspection once a year — or every six months for your daily staples. This keeps settings secure and restores that luminous finish only expert polishing can achieve.

Gold isn’t meant to sit untouched in a jewelry box — it’s meant to live with you, move with you and collect memories and stories along the way. A little care keeps it as brilliant as the moments you choose to wear it for.

Cheers!
