Melanie here: Mother's Day has always been a little topsy turvy for me and I know I'm not alone in that sense. It can be a day that, for a whole host of reasons, can be fraught with a lot of emotions and not all of them "positive." For me, it's because my mom wasn't what you'd call "traditional." But that's a long story for another day. Stacy's mom wasn't exactly like mine, but she also wasn't "traditional," so we share that in common and — over the past few years — together we've born the loss of our non-traditional mothers. This is one of the many reasons Maison Mariann holds such personal meaning for us.
Technically, we created the company to honor Stacy's mom, Mariann, after finding her old-school charm bracelet laden with symbols and celebrations of a lifetime. But since then, the company has also come to honor the many women in our lives who've mothered each of us. From our moms (and my stepmom and "other mother"), grandmothers and aunts to neighbors, mentors and moms-in-law, both of us have been exceptionally fortunate on the mother-figure front.
For us, women supporting and empowering one another; passing down everything from wisdom and wealth (if you are lucky), to traditions and tangible objects has manifested not only in the countless ways we move in the world and treat other women — conventional, rebel and everything in between — but also in this company. Meaning, Maison Mariann is a fine jewelry company, but it's also so much more than that.
That's the gift, isn't it? Not the thing itself — like Stacy's mom's bracelet — but what it means. What it will mean, years from now, when someone who loves you reaches for a piece you once wore and feels you still. Our Celebracelet was born from exactly that impulse — a daughter who found her mother's charm bracelet and understood, in an instant, that it was so much more than jewelry. It was a life, told in gold and silver — a living heirloom she'll one day pass forward, charm by charm, story by story.
